Minnesota United FC
Feb 2017
Minnesota United FC kicked off its inaugural season in Major League Soccer in 2017. To commemorate the occasion, the team had me create images of each player.
The goal was a mix of images—traditional, contemporary, and action shots—that could be used across different media leading up to the team’s first home game and throughout the season. The team had invited more than 20 season ticket holders to be a part of the shoot, too. (Thanks to its dynamic minor league play, Minnesota United already had a diverse fanbase when it stepped into MLS.)
To meet Minnesota United’s vision, I set up three sets and had the players rotate through each. I had only seven minutes to get through a comprehensive shot list for each player, which meant there was no time to waste. By dialing in the shot list, pre-lighting the sets, and moving quickly, I was able to capture both portraits and full body action images of the 40+ people (players and fans) we had in the studio.
The images I captured were used for program books, jumbotron displays, vehicle wraps, billboards, and even a construction fence.
