Last weekend was the Perman+Tomac family reunion – a big country potluck at the American Legion hall in Greenwood Wisconsin. The last time I attended a large family reunion with this side of the family was over 13 years ago, but I've luckily been able to see many members of the family in small groups at different smaller gatherings. I am really happy I was able to attend this year's reunion because it it clear that everyone is getting older. Of the eight siblings that included my grandpa, only his two sisters are left. I also tend to think about my grandfather's life and accomplishments when spending time with extended family. He grew up milking cows by hand and eventually got his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine and PhD at the U of M, spending his entire career at the U from his undergraduate education to professorship and research. It is nice to be living in Minnesota now since it is only a two hour drive to visit Wisconsin. Hopefully it won't be another 13 years before I'm back seeing everyone in Greenwood.
