This blog will mostly focus on new work, but there are a few personal projects I shot over the last year that I will share as the blog gets rolling. In mid november the Minnesota State Cyclocross Championships took place at Bassett Creek Park right in the middle of the first snow to hit the Twin Cities. While we've been lacking snow for the rest of the winter so far, it was coming down hard throughout the day's races.
Cyclocross racing is hard to describe. It involves riding and running with your bike through the worst conditions you can imagine. Sand, snow, mud, racers ride through it all on every lap. In the woods a long flight of stairs confront the rider, with spectators lining the hill as the racers run up the hill carrying their bikes. This is the center of all the spectator action, with a small drumline providing an exciting soundtrack for all the action. Oh, and there's beer, lots of beer. Fans hold out cans of beer and dollar bills to spur a little extra competition up the hill. It great event to photograph, next year I may need to get some extra riding in and compete in a few cross races myself.
