A shot of Wiping out Thousands on Tmax 3200iso film:
Last night at First Ave was the annual Best New Bands showcase. In addition to shooting digital as I normally do, I was also testing out the new Leica I just got using some high speed film (I hinted about this camera on Thursday, and will write more about it soon). A number of the shots were underexposed, but I just love the feel the grainy, high-iso film gives this backlit shot of Wiping out Thousands. I feel lucky to have seen many of the band performing before, but most were as in-studio sessions at The Current and not in front of a live audience. It was great to see these bands up on the main stage of First Ave and for many of the bands, it was likely the biggest crowd they've ever played for. In-studios are great intimate performances, but there is a totally different energy from the bands as they play for a 1000+ people. A gallery of digital shots from the show will be on http://TheCurrent.org/ on Monday.
