After having shot the album Cover for The Cactus Blossoms early in the fall, they contacted me about two weeks before their record release about partnering on a video. The release date was coming quickly, and they were getting pressure from management and the label to release a music video to help promote the album.
Jack's wife Sarah Jean, a set stylist in the Twin Cities, was already working with the guys on a more elaborate music video with another local director, but it quickly became clear that the video would not be ready for the release of the album. With ten days to the the album release, Jack, Page, Sarah Jean, and I sat down to hatch a plan that could meet their deadline, but also be something we could all be proud to share.
We decided on a live performance video, but the guys didn't want to just play along to the album recording. Instead we planned a studio session at Summer-Winter studios. Aesthetically I drew heavily upon some of Annie Leibovitz's work, such as her iconic images of Keith Richards for Louis Vuitton, adding lights that highlighted Jack and Page, and created a dim warm glow over the rest of the band.
The video premiered February 5rd on RollingStone.com Country.
