Nights recently have been a little cooler, the sun is setting a little earlier. The early signs of fall are here. This means it's now cyclocross season. In Minneapolis, every Tuesday night, cyclists from across the metro head to Aquila Park in Saint Louis Park for some fun early season racing. The riders race against the sun in addition to each other, with the last race ending just as the last rays of sun disappear from the grassy hillside.
Cyclocross is the steeplechase of cycling: riders racing over grass, sand and mud, jumping small hurdles, and every condition imaginable. The course at Aquila park is a small loop along one side of the park. I knew last week that I wouldn't make it in time to race, but went out to watch and say hello to my many friends who were racing. I had one camera and one lens with me, and with the incredible evening light felt like I had to make some photos of the race. These are a few of my favorites from the short time at the race.
