Almost a month ago Angry Catfish hosted the Cold Catfish Cup fat bike race at Carver Lake on the east side of the Twin Cities metro. Fat bike riding and racing has exploded over the past few years, and I wanted to capture the race, winding through the woods, racing on packed snow covered trails with 4 inch wide tires.
For the last two years, I consistently heard about the race the day only the day after the event. This year I finally got it on my calendar ahead of time and went out to photograph the race. I've been really busy the last few weeks, and finally made time this snowy morning to sort through the images and post a small gallery.
Attending the race in January actually put me over the edge to actually purchase one of these fat bikes myself. After a few weeks of browsing Craigslist, I found a used bike in great condition. I've been having a ton of fun out riding the last two weeks, getting in a two hour ride both Saturday and Sunday. Learning to ride on the snow covered trails was a lot harder then I expected, but now that I'm finally getting comfortable I plan to start carrying a camera along on some rides. Expect some more winter riding photos in the future.
